Keeping sane during the holiday rush for those last minute Kindles and I-Pods can make life less than tranquil, but as in many things, one's mental focus can make all the difference between hydrating for health and drinking for sport. Here are some sage tips on keeping on top of your game this holiday season.
Start Holiday Preparations Early and Often
That last second rush to the drug store to buy half of your presents last year was less than a grand success. This time, start with an organized list of items to do along with an approximate timeline for completion. Approaching the holidays as you would any other big project is the best way to get things done on a stress-less basis.
Multitasking can be a help as can some delegating. Why not ask one of the kids to print a labels list for your Christmas cards so that all you need to do is sign and mail them? Make the tree and house decorations a party for the family. Get everyone involved including the kid's friends.
Keep Healthy, Wealthy and Wisecracks to Yourself
Letting your resistance to colds and infections get low is hard to avoid if you are not sleeping properly. Find a way to get a very long night's sleep at least once or twice per week and keep yourself and your home well hydrated. Start every morning with a tall glass of cold water with a splash of lemon juice. This will benefit your liver, lower your caloric intake and hydrate your body from the start of the day.
Losing your temper is usually very uncommon, but with the stress level arcing higher by the day, it can be hard to keep your sharp wit from slicing through the air and cutting down a loitering child or well meaning but slow moving spouse. Count to ten, or 87 if that is what it takes, but keep your temper from flaring at a bad time. Everyone will be happier if you can keep your cool.
Relax on the Holidays
So what if your best friend has a big, full-course turkey dinner on the holiday? If it makes sense for you, order Chinese food or have a catered party instead of cooking it all yourself. You need time to relax and enjoy the love of your family and friends.
So start your prep working today, if you have not already done so, keep yourself healthy, hydrated and exercised and enjoy the time with family. Live this holiday to the fullest extent of your enjoyment and have a wonderful new year.
